Tears are produced in the lacrimal gland, which is located behind the upper eyelid. These tears then travel across the surface of the eye and then drain into the lacrimal duct system, which drains into the nose. Tearing is a common symptom when this system is not working properly. In some cases, this may lead to infection. Both surgical and nonsurgical interventions can be performed to alleviate these problems. Because of the nature of this treatment, it may be covered by insurance.
