Ectropion is the medical term for the lower eyelid turning outwards or sagging. This usually causes the eye to be exposed, which can lead to redness, irritation and dryness. Excessive tearing is usually a common symptom. Surgical repair of ectropion returns the eyelid back to its normal position, which improves these symptoms. Because of the nature of this surgery, it may be covered by insurance.
